:: About Our Program
SLP‘s mission is to develop effective and essential leadership skills in students through comprehensive leadership education, civic opportunities and diverse experiences. Expanding upon the principles of Service Learning, SLP is applied across all subjects and grade levels. SLP’s program is unique as it offers many different modules that are tailored for each school environment. Programs can be offered during lunch, after school or within the school curriculum.
Each chapter has its own web page and outlines the curriculum for their program. Parents and grandparents, along with community leaders are key to this program and are encouraged to work with the program.
The Student Leadership Program trains students to be a leader in their school, community and family. It fulfills the US Department of Education Eight Key elements of Service Learning and Public Law 194. By combining individual leadership goals and training with service learning, the student develops the fundamental skills that are helpful to maintain successful personal relationships, contributing to the family, and participating as citizens in our community.
Parents and students must sign an agreement to be in the program. Students in SLP receive a credential at the beginning of the program. They are to wear that credential at school at all times. Students will achieve stickers for doing positive things at school on their credential. The SLP credential can be removed by any faculty member for conduct unbecoming a leader or a referral. If a referral occurs, the student looses his SLP privileges for the week.
A student also receives a task passbook. Each week the student performs various tasks and gets appropriate signatures. At the end of the program, students will receive prizes based on task completion and stickers received.
The program restarts each semester with previous SLP graduates becoming leadership buddies to a new participant. |
